LATHRUP VILLAGE — The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC), a premier nonprofit human service organization serving southeast Michigan, will host a free legal clinic in partnership with the Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service (MPAS). The clinic seeks to serve families with children in Detroit Public Schools, Education Achievement Authority schools and Detroit charter schools who have special education needs and have questions about their rights and services.
The Special Education Legal Clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at ACC’s Youth Recreation and Leadership Center (62 W. Seven Mile Road, Detroit).
Held bi-weekly with area organizations since October, the clinic provides families with the opportunity to bring in their child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and to ask questions. In attendance at the ACC event will be Mark McWilliams, attorney at MPAS, as well as Arabic interpreters.
No appointment is necessary, however RSVPs are required to attend. To attend, please contact Barbara Wright at 313-557-8780 or at Barbara@michiganallianceforfamilies.org.
