DEARBORN — Sammy Cheaito is a veteran car salesman and long-time employee at Superior Buick GMC and earned the 2014 Top Sales Award for GMC brands. He was presented with an award by Duncan Aldred, GMC’s vice-president of sales, and Detroit Lions Wide Receiver Golden Tate at the Industry Preview breakfast during the 2015 North American International Auto Show.
“I would not have gotten that award if it wasn’t for the Arab-American community, Cheaito said. “I wanted to thank them for being such loyal customers.”
Cheaito has been selling cars for nearly 35 years. He began his career in 1981, selling Datsuns in San Jose, California, then becoming a sales manager for Infinite in Las Vegas, Nevada. He would eventually move to Michigan with his daughter and was hired at Superior Buick GMC, where he has worked for the last 13 years.
He now plans to continue in auto sales but also focus on a different business venture. He founded the bus company ALZ Tours, which focuses on educational, out-of-state tours for students. Cheaito said he wants to ease the cost burden for parents, which will allow more kids to see America’s greatest landmarks.
“This all a happened when I chaperoned my daughter on a school trip to Washington D.C. and I was very impressed with the museums and memorials,” Cheaito said. “Every student in the country should go to D.C. at least once.”
He also purchased Agape Tours Bus Company, which does charter tours.
He is actively involved in many charity works, raising money for groups like the Russo Foundation and the Burger Baylor School for Students with Autism, in Garden City.
Cheaito sold a record of 52 cars at Superior Buick GMC in December.
