DEARBORN HEIGHTS — The City Council voted against Wayne County’s projected sale of the Warren Valley Golf Course.

They voted 5 to 1 in opposition of the $1.8 million sale of the golf course to residential developers.

According to the resolution, the development “creates potential infrastructure liabilities, potential for flooding of existing homes, creates a financial burden” to the city and taxpayers and a “concern with the impact on the Crestwood School District.”

However, a second resolution permits Mayor Daniel Paletko and City Attorney Gary Miotke to reach an agreement to buy the golf course for the city. It passed unanimously.

The resolution explains that the purchase of the golf course would guarantee the “protection of the interests of the city of Dearborn Heights, its residents, its taxpayers, its businesses and visitors.”

The final decision of the sale awaits a vote of the Wayne County Commission. Up till now, commissioner Diane Webb (D-Dearborn Heights) has expressed her opposition.
