Dearborn Heights — Dearborn Heights, Taylor and the civil engineering firm Wade Trim will host a public forum to secure the public’s input and opinions regarding the proposed Van Born Corridor Improvement Project. The forum will take place Wednesday, Sept. 19 at the Richard A. Young Recreation Center on McKinley Street. The meeting will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and all interested parties are invited to attend and share their input. 

The project, shared between Dearborn Heights and Taylor, was initiated in 2017 and calls for infrastructure and aesthetic improvements along Van Born Road that will support local businesses, residents and visitors to the area. The corridor is separated by Van Born Road and is bordered on the north by Dearborn Heights and on the south by Taylor. 

A steering committee of citizens and business owners from both cities has been actively meeting with Wade Trim to consider prospective improvements – particularly between Inkster and Pelham Roads. 

“While our committee and the project partners are actively exploring several different options, I have stressed throughout these deliberations how important it is to secure the input of our businesses owners, residents, elected officials and others who frequent the area,”  Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko said.

“This open forum will provide an opportunity to do just that,” he added. “We are confident this project, when completed, will serve as the nucleus for a real economic and social growth on both sides of Van Born Road. We hope to have a great turnout at our September 19 meeting and hear lots of new ideas that will help influence this important project.”
