DEARBORN — Dearborn police responded to a domestic violence incident that escalated into a police chase across two days. The suspect is Dearborn resident Ali Ahmed Zbib, 55. Reports state that after allegedly assaulting a 42-year-old woman at the residence in the 5000 block Argyle Street, Zbib fled the scene.
After the incident around 6 a.m., Zbib entered a Freightliner semi tractor. Officers began pursuing him and he then hit an officer’s vehicle and continued to flee. The pursuit ended in Taylor at Telegraph and Champaign St. due to the dangers his driving posed.
Forty-eight hours later, on June 9, Dearborn police found Zbib in the semi-cab in Detroit. He was arrested and charged with domestic violence, malicious destruction of police property and fleeing and eluding.
In his arraignment before Judge Mark Somers of the 19th District Court, he was issued a $100,000 cash bond and a GPS tether. A probable cause conference is scheduled for June 18, followed by a preliminary exam on June 25.
“This individual led officers from multiple area agencies on a dangerous pursuit while driving erratically, putting others in danger,” said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin. “I commend our Special Operations and patrol officers and thank our partner agencies for their cooperation in bringing this suspect to justice.”
